Double Top

This is a 16″ Selmer style guitar that features a double top construction. That is, there is a honeycomb material called Nomex that is sandwiched between two thin soundboards. The result is superb balance throughout the guitars range, more pronounced harmonic overtones, and increased volume.

Michael Collins graduated from the Roberto Venn School of Luthiery in 1992. He built Harpsichords, and Fortepianos for the firm of Hubbard & Broekman Harpsichords in Boston for seven years, before resuming his love for guitar building. He began making reproductions of Selmer style instruments in 2002, and wrote a book describing that process which was published in 2006. He lives in Arizona, and is in the middle of creating a Selmer guitar building course for the Roberto Venn School of Luthiery.
